SERVICES OFFERED
TUNING
Regular upkeep of your piano is important for the condition of the instrument. Having your piano tuned will keep the instrument in optimum playing condition. Tuning is the most basic service offered for piano upkeep.
PITCH CORRECTION
When pianos have not been tuned for a long time, they sometimes require a pitch correction before a regular tuning. If the piano is very out of tune, one pass through (i.e. a regular tuning) may not be enough to stabilize the pitch. Pitch corrections bring the piano closer to being in tune and then a regular tuning is done afterwards to finalize the pitch.
REGULATION
Regulation is a procedure in addition to tunings that will keep your instrument in proper playing condition. While a tuning changes the pitch of the instrument, regulation makes sure that all of the mechanisms and moving parts of the piano are in proper working order.
VOICING
Over time, the tone of your piano may change due to regular use of your instrument. Voicing generally involves: filing hammers, fitting hammers to strings, and/or loosening/hardening the felt of the hammer. Voicing is most effective in conjunction with piano regulation. Voicing will help bring out the best tone in your piano.
HUMIDITY CONTROL
When pianos are exposed to varieties of temperatures and humidities throughout the year, they drop proper tuning faster. Temperature and humidity changes can also cause wooden parts on the piano - including hammers and soundboards - to warp or crack. In order to help regulate the varying temperature and humidity issues, humidity control systems can be installed underneath or inside a piano to help stabilize the environment within the piano.
APPRAISALS
Your piano can be appraised for a variety of reasons: insurance purposes, for an accurate sale price, value, etc. Appraisals are verbally discussed between the technician and client. In addition, you can request a written document outlining the appraisal of your instrument.
ACTION REBUILDING / RESTORATION
Piano actions have many moving parts that can break down with use or non-use over time. In some instances, some or all of those moving parts may need to be renewed or replaced. There are many different levels of rebuilding and I will work with the piano owner to find the best option to suit your pianos' needs.
